School refectory

Description

To reduce food waste in school meals, in 2015 the Municipality integrated the electronic register of state primary schools into the multi-channel attendance automation system. The aim of the project is to report through data the use of the electronic register for the communication of pupils' attendance to the school meals system and raise awareness, through open data, schools and families to the theme of food waste. The Municipality of Bologna provides school meals, at the request of parents, for pupils enrolled in public kindergartens, primary and secondary schools of 1st degree. After a brief experiment (April-June 2015) which made it clear that it was of significant use, in agreement with school leaders, the electronic register was equipped with new functionalities which, following the teacher’s call, made it possible to transmit the children’s attendance/absence to the attendance automation system for school meals. In the 2015/2016 school year, the survey was extended to the whole city. In 2016/2017 the project went into full swing. There are 22 out of 22 comprehensive institutions in the city that today have signed the convention, thus integrating the use of the register in the automation system of the refection.
