Ecological groups of habitats and species of the Habitats Directive
Description
This dataset identifies ecological groups and degree of endemism of species and habitats listed in the Habitats Directive annexes. The work on ecological groups and endemism was initiated and performed with a particular focus on the Habitats Directive reporting under Article 17 with the broad objective to further exploit the reported information on conservation status and pressures. The term “ecological group” is used in a wide sense, generally as being an attribute or a feature linked to a species or a habitat type. The ecological groups are described in detail in the technical report "Policy relevant groups for Habitats Directive habitats and species" and they were selected to meet the needs for performing specific assessments in support of legal frameworks and strategy processes in the EU.
To demonstrate a use of the ecological groups for assessments, a case study focusing on the evaluation of pressures to wetland habitats and species. The case study is provided in Annex 1 of the technical report. In the case study, pressures as reported by EU Member States for the period 2013-2018 under their obligations related to the Article 17 of the Habitats Directive were used.
