Species-rich montane lawn companies on avalanche railways of the Gesäuse National Park (Austria)
Description
The aim of this study was to gain insights into the importance of avalanche railways for biodiversity. In the Gesäuse National Park (Steiermark, Austria), 16 plant populations in three selected avalanche lanes were examined in plant sociology, characterised vegetation ecology and documented with vegetation table, soil analysis data and topographic parameters. In addition, an inventory of the butterflies was carried out. The diversity of plant species was assessed with different diversity indices. The causes of the species richness in the examined avalanche tracks are discussed.
