Territorial impact soil erosion (2024)
Description
The ‘Soil erosion area-based impact’ data layer shows the extent to which an area is subject to the effects of soil erosion. The scores were determined on the basis of an integrated assessment framework that takes into account both the on-site and off-site impact of soil erosion, such as loss of soil fertility, mud flows, sediment supply to the watercourses and sediment deposition in vulnerable nature. Based on erosion and sediment modelling, sub-scores were determined for infrastructure, water systems, agriculture and ecology. In addition, recorded observations were taken into account. The zoning is based on the intermediate catchment areas (A1 areas), as defined by the VMM in the context of the 2022-2027 River Basin Management Plans.
