Atlas of residential reserve areas
Description
The atlas of the residential reserve areas is not provided for in the regulations. It is therefore not a legal instrument. It is a purely informative tool at the service of policy officers, planners and stakeholders with a view to monitoring the realisation of the residential reserve areas in Flanders. The atlas replaces the atlas of the residential expansion areas. The atlas of the residential reserve areas is an informative map set with indications of the solidified and non-solidified (parts of) areas in the residential reserve areas. The residential reserve areas include the ‘housing expansion areas’, ‘residential reserve area’, ‘residential reserve area’, and the ‘housing cut-off areas’ as provided for in the regional plans. The regulation to address these areas was radically changed in order to achieve the long-term objectives of the construction shift. This new decree-law (dated 26 May 2023 with regard to the decree amending the VCRO as regards residential reserve areas) places a ‘stolp’ over the remaining residential reserve areas. The opening of (un)built residential reserve area can only be done if the municipality ‘releases’ the area (so-called ‘release decree’).
