INTEMARES Benthic Olive Dry Habitats - Points

Description

The information contained in this dataset corresponds to the record and spatial location of various benthic habitats of the Seco de los Olivos underwater mountain from whose presence we obtained a number of points too low to be modeled. The identification and definition of each habitat was carried out through the use of multivariate analysis techniques applied on data obtained with ROV as the only biological sampling technique. In total, 55 transects were made between 76 and 700 m deep, which constituted the recording of 73 hours of video of the underwater background (67.52 linear km). Biological results were integrated with morphosedimental characterization and environmental data derived from multibeam bathymetry and high resolution seismic profiles. The area covered by the data provided includes the seabed of this mountain formed by a central 'guyot' and two lateral mountain ranges (Demarcation Strait and Alboran). It is a data set composed of dotted elements, where each element represents a benthic habitat. Each object is associated with a series of alphanumeric variables that correspond to the different codes and nomenclatures of the different habitats in the different international and national lists or catalogues and benthic habitats. The preparation of this set of geographical information began during the development of the INDEMARES plan, thanks to the 3 oceanographic campaigns that were carried out between 2010 and 2012 within the framework of this project. The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database. These works have been financed thanks to the LIFE IP INTEMARES Project (LIFE-IP INTEMARES - Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management for N2000 network in the Marine Environment - LIFE15 IPE/ES/000012). This integrated project has the challenge of laying the foundations to effectively manage the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network and complete the work and progress promoted within the framework of the LIFE + INDEMARES project, which managed to take a great step in terms of declaring new areas.
