Characterization of the Andalusian coastline: 2011
Description
The coastline represents the linear segment that runs along the margin of the Andalusian coast in contact with the sea, from its beginning in Portugal to its eastern end in Murcia. To obtain it, four digitization criteria have been used that define the coastline from a geomorphological perspective with a clear intentionality applied: 1) Last wet tide mark in sedimentary littoral formations exposed to open sea (beaches). 2) Lowest tide limit (among all available orthos) for estuaries and tidal network. 3) External limit of infrastructure for all types of infrastructure in direct contact with the sea. 4) Cliff base for rock formations directly connected to the sea.
The coastline is characterized physiographically, thematically and in its magnitude. Double delineation of the coastline is included; one of great length that crosses marshes, estuaries and limits of ports and breakwaters and another shorter, in which marshes, estuaries and infrastructures have been avoided, giving rise to a line of length more in accordance with the statistical value that is usually handled. From the long layer, a series of derived layers have been extracted that differentiate, on the one hand, the hierarchy established in the classification of the physiographic units (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4), and on the other, the different topics of interest from the physiographic point of view and the impact on the layout of the coastline (canyons, dunes, estuary margins and tidal, urban and beach pipes). Also included are paths associated with different toponymic sources of each coastal section and other layers of usefulness for cartographic design.
