MOPROFIL – Carbon-rich soils in Lower Saxony according to profile description of soil science (WMS Service)
Description
The map shows the location points of the moorcundal sites detected in the Lower Saxony Soil Information System (NIBIS). Details of the profile structure and the characteristics of the respective horizons can be retrieved and displayed graphically as a drilling column.
From 70 years of mapping, around 40.000 boreholes are recorded nationwide with a total of around 180.000 horizon descriptions of different ages and from different survey projects and reflect the state at the time of the survey. With information on torfart and empowerment, genesis, degree of peat decomposition and anthropogenic overprinting, they represent the multitude of possible manifestations of carbon-rich soils and their variants and provide an essential source of information that clearly complements the description of the moorlands of Schneekloth et al.
