Description

From 2005 onwards, this database provides data on seal monitoring in the area of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park. The data are comprehensive aircraft-based surveys from 2005 onwards in the seasons relevant for cone seals: As a rule, three surveys are carried out per year at the throwing period (November — January) and two surveys are carried out during the hair change period (March — April). Sightings outside this period are not provided in this dataset (see seals: Robben: Monitoring of stocks of seals and seals in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea from 1989, object ID:c9821815-de30-4559-8250-8046bfe5fc22). During the cone seal monitoring, a precise coordinate is assigned to all counted individual animals or groups, which is defined as berth. If possible, a distinction is made between adult and juvenile animals. For inventory calculations, the data can be filtered according to individual acquisition flights. Column “Robben Year”: The throwing period of the seals takes place over the turn of the year between November and January of the following year. In order to simplify the processing and filtering of the data, the column “Robben Year” has been inserted, which for cone seals assigns the months November and December to the following year, so that the throwing time is not split at a selection of the collection year. The data described here can be retrieved via the associated service “(WFS) seals — berths” (Object ID:a11b2dcc-5d21-4c70-bb6b-3556db2cfc2b). In addition, the individual annual layers with all flights per year are offered as a WMS display service (Object ID: ####.
