Grey seals: Berths in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea from 2005 (LKN.SH - NPV)

Description

This database provides data from the grey seal monitoring in the area of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park from 2005 onwards. The data are comprehensive aircraft-based surveys from 2005 onwards in the seasons relevant for grey seals: As a rule, three surveys are carried out per year at the time of the litter (November - January) and two surveys at the time of the hair change (March - April). Sightings outside this period are not made available in this dataset (see seals: Seals: Monitoring of the populations of seals and grey seals in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea from 1989, Object-ID:c9821815-en30-4559-8250-8046bfe5fc22). During the grey seal monitoring, all counted individual animals or groups are assigned a precise coordinate, which is defined as a berth. If possible, a distinction is made between adult and juvenile animals. For inventory calculations, the data can be filtered by individual acquisition flights. Column ‘Year of seal’: The litter season of grey seals takes place at the turn of the year between November and January of the following year. In order to simplify the processing and filtering of the data, the column "Year of seals" has been added, which assigns the months of November and December to the following year for grey seals, so that the littering time is not split when selecting the year of collection. The data described here can be retrieved via the associated service "(WFS) Grey Seal - Berths" (object ID:a11b2dcc-5d21-4c70-bb6b-3556db2cfc2b). In addition, the individual annual layers with all flights per year are offered as a WMS display service (object ID: ####).
