Andalusian Inventory of Georesources, 2011
Description
The Andalusian Inventory of Georesources of 2011, is the result of the update of the Catalogue of Sites of Geological Interest of Andalusia of 2004. 74 new georesources have been included in this update, making a total of 662. This work fulfills one of the commitments made in the Andalusian Strategy for Integrated Geodiversity Management approved by the Governing Council of the Junta de Andalucía on October 5, 2010.
Knowledge of the geological heritage of Andalusia is a prior and essential step to protect, conserve and value these natural resources. The work has been developed with the collaboration of numerous experts and researchers in the fields of Geology and Earth Sciences and also thanks to the involvement of other administrations, scientific-technical institutions and organizations. The Inventory includes a generic description of each enclave, as well as its most relevant geological aspects. The locations inventoried have been evaluated according to scientific, didactic and tourist criteria. The update work was completed in 2011. For protection reasons, the approximate location of certain paleontological and mineralogical deposits considered extremely fragile is shown by grids.
