Water purification rivers, lakes
Description
Water purification takes place through many different (chemical, physical, biological) processes. It is not possible to capture this in an indicator. That is why this map highlights an aspect of purification, filtration by Quaggamosselen. These mussels have had major effects on water quality over the last five years, including the occurrence of blue-green algae blooms.
This map shows to what extent the water column is filtered by mussels. With high filtration, there is a substantial influence on water quality and transparency. This map is composed of the actual measurement locations using circle.
