District of Gütersloh: Biotope Composite Areas
Description
Data from the LANUV (Landesamt für Natur, Umwelt und Verbraucherschutz) on biotope composite areas. The biotope network is designed to permanently safeguard the populations of wild animals and plants, including their habitats, biotopes and communities, as well as the preservation, restoration and development of functional ecological interdependencies. As a technical concept of nature conservation, the biotope network secures core areas (areas with outstanding importance for the biotope composite system) and connecting areas (areas of particular importance for the biotope composite system). The core areas contain the currently protected areas and the areas worthy of conservation in the biotope cadastre as essential components. The connecting areas are intended to enable the spread or exchange of individuals of neighbouring populations. The Biotope Network contributes to the better linking of Natura 2000 sites and is thus also at the heart of the conservation and development of biodiversity within the framework of the National Biodiversity Strategy.
