Groundwater reservoir (display service)
Description
The viewing service Groundwater reservoirs mainly contains information about groundwater in larger reservoirs along gravel ridges and in sedimentary bedrock. The mapping determines, among other things, the directions of groundwater currents, the locations of the groundwater dividers and the size and abstraction possibilities of the groundwater reservoir. When mapping on a detailed scale, the catchment areas of the reservoir, surface water contacts and more are also determined.
SGU's information on groundwater forms an important basis for planning the water supply in society. It is also one of the prerequisites for us in Sweden to be able to achieve the environmental quality objective Groundwater of good quality and contributes to us being able to meet the requirements set out in the EU Water Framework Directive. In addition, groundwater information is used in matters relating to land use and spatial planning in general, for example as a basis for environmental impact assessments, for action programmes for the protection of groundwater and in the construction of landfills, roads, industries, etc.
