REDIAM. WMS HIC 1170 Reefs
Description
WMS service corresponding to the habitat of community interest reef. It is defined as all those compact hard substrates that emerge on the seabed in the sublittoral or coastal area, whether of biogenic or geological origin. They must be submerged, at least, in the high water. The characteristics of this set of habitats can vary greatly depending on the geographical area, the topography, the bathymetric level, the nature of the rocky substrate and the different physico-chemical factors of the water column that bathes them. They may or may not have a biocenotic component. The vegetation can be very rich and will depend on the luminosity, varying from lichens and cyanophyceous algae in the upper areas that are out of the water, green, brown and red algae in the intertidal areas and in always submerged areas, brown algae, fundamentally. When the lack of light prevents the development of algae, biocenosis is composed only of fauna, which is extremely rich and varied, showing enormous differences depending on the different factors, with more than 7,000 animal species recognized in the rocky bottoms of the Spanish coasts and territorial waters.
