Thermal conductivity up to 100m - contours (Lambda)
Description
The thermal conductivity maps of the Flemish subsurface, commissioned by the Department of Land and Soil Protection, Subsurface and Natural Resources, give the thermal conductivity of the Flemish subsurface to a depth of 100m or to the solid rock. This assignment aims to analyse the missing geological formations, compared to an earlier assignment in 2004, and to pursue a refinement of the suitability map towards the use of vertical probes for energy extraction and energy storage. The database was expanded by determining the thermal conductivity of 10 other previously unexplored formations. In this way, a good insight can be obtained into the thermal conductivity of the shallow subsurface of Flanders, in such a way that it should also be possible to draw up a more refined suitability map of the Flemish subsurface for cold-heat storage and borehole energy extraction. These maps are line maps that represent the average, minimum and maximum average thermal conductivity of the Flemish subsurface. These contours have an equidistance of 0.1 W/mK. Each jump therefore represents a difference in thermal conductivity of 0.1 W/mK. The minimum average thermal conductivity over a depth of 100 meters is 1.6 W/mK, the maximum is 3.0 W/mK.
