Meteorological model tricks (about 2.5 km resolution) — Forecast data real-time
Description
Meteorological model (knep) — short precipitation forecast
DESCRIPTION:
In this data set there are forecast data from the forecast model tricks. Tricks are a short forecast for precipitation with 1-6 hours forecast lengths. The forecast is based on the amount of precipitation calculated from radar data that, during 6 forecast time steps with adjusted weighting, passes into either MEPS or ECMWF meteorological forecast model. The model runs every hour.
The forecast covers an area over Scandinavia and has spatial resolution of about 2.5 km.
USE:
At SMHI, further processed data from tricks is used as a possible subset in the forecast model PMP_P.
FORMAT:
Data is in format GRIB edition 1.
ORIGIN HISTORY/STATEMENT:
The model tries to create a more consistent precipitation forecast with reality for the first forecast time steps by using radar observations of the precipitation. The likely movement of precipitation is calculated using wind speed and direction from meteorological forecasting model. With the help of temperature, a calculation is made of the proportion of precipitation that comes in solid form.
