Description
Due to the large surface area of their leaf organs, trees can filter out large amounts of pollutants and (fine) dust from the air. Immission control forest is intended to protect residential, working and recreational areas, agricultural and forestry areas as well as valuable biotopes from the adverse effects of gases, dusts, aerosols and radiation or to reduce them. Local pollution control forest is defined by its location between an emitter and an area to be protected. Its task here is to protect adjacent settlements, recreational areas, hospitals, etc. from air pollution as well as odour and noise nuisances. Regional pollution control forest is characterized by a pollutant-reducing effect with regard to large-scale emissions, which cannot be assigned to any specific emitter.
