Forest biotope mapping (WBK) is carried out under the auspices of the Forstliche Versuchs- und Forschungsanstalt (FVA). Field surveys are carried out by forest-trained mappers. The forest biotope mapping surveys on a scale of 1:10,000 specially protected biotopes according to § 30 Federal Nature Conservation Act, § 32 Nature Conservation Act BW, biotope protection forest according to § 30a State Forest Act as well as biotopes not protected by law, but subject to the self-binding of the forest owner. In addition, it has been recording and evaluating forest and special openland habitat types in the FFH areas since 2007 as part of the FFH management planning. The data is stored in the Nature Conservation Information System (NAIS) of the LUBW and passed on by the LUBW to the lower nature conservation authorities and the regional councils. The first round of the WBK took place from 1989 to 2002. An update mapping has been carried out since 2002.
