Description

This dataset contains 19 csvs with data on the operation of libraries for the years 2006 to 2019 on themes such as collection and use, digital data and library fees, infrastructure and opening hours, income and expenses, staff and volunteers, activities, promotion and services. This data was collected by the Department of Culture, Youth and Media via the Library Information and Follow-up System (BIOS), a web application for the registration of data about the libraries. This dataset also contains a pdf with the then manual for BIOS for libraries for more explanation of the csv files. With the reversal of the Flemish subsidies in the municipal fund and the removal of the statutory obligation to register by libraries in 2016, the participation rate for the BIOS monitor systematically decreased. This led to a decrease in the reliability and representativeness of the data. For this reason, the department decided in 2019 to discontinue BIOS (as well as CCinC, Culture and Community Centres in Figures) from the 2020 working year and to tilt a limited set of core indicators from both monitors into the local leisure monitor. With the phasing out of BIOS and CCinC, the 'Knowledge Portal Cultural Centres and Libraries' and the accompanying QlikView reporting were also phased out.
