Batteries for electric vehicles: Reuse and recycling.
Description
Many raw materials for electrically powered vehicles are limited and difficult to obtain. In addition, they are often extracted under socially and ecologically critical conditions. Reuse and recycling of e-vehicle batteries offer the opportunity to significantly reduce the demand for primary raw materials and thus increase their resource efficiency. The study provides an overview of technical potentials, hurdles and legal requirements. Applications for used batteries as stationary energy storage systems, for electrical infrastructure or for mobile applications, from trucks to home robots are analysed. Battery recycling shows that up to 99 % of raw materials and components can be recycled. Both options help to conserve and sustainably use resources for the expansion of electric mobility.
