Building Inventory

Description

The cantonal building inventory records, describes and evaluates monuments (individual objects as well as building and structural groups). It forms a sound basis for the practical work of monument preservation and for scientific research. With the building inventory, the preservation of historical monuments provides not only municipalities and landowners, but also the general public with a qualified overview of the historical building stock in the canton. The data in the Geoportal present an up-to-date, but legally non-binding data extract from the building inventory. The legally binding edition can be consulted at the municipal administrations and the government governor's offices as well as at the preservation of historical monuments and the Office for Municipalities and Spatial Planning. Since 2010, the building inventories have been available for all municipalities in the canton. The district inventories of the city of Bern are processed by the city's preservation department. They are accessible online: Building Inventory City of Bern (bauinventar.bern.ch) The building inventory is regularly revised by the cantonal preservation of monuments. Changes must first be made available for public inspection and put into effect by order of the cantonal office for culture before they are depicted in the geoportal.
