Favorable areas for geothermal probes. This map gives a first overview of the potential uses of near-surface geothermal energy by means of geothermal probes. Classification is shown at which locations the construction and operation of a geothermal probe plant is likely to be possible, is unlikely to be possible or a case-by-case examination by the water authority is required. The assessment is carried out on the basis of the guidelines in the guidelines for geothermal probes in Bavaria and the findings of the water management administration. The presentation does not give a legally binding statement on the admissibility of a project. Irrespective of the information provided here, the competent district/city administration must examine the admissibility of the installation in individual cases. The result of the test may differ from the initial assessments presented here. It is not checked whether a groundwater heat pump system or a geothermal heat collector is a better alternative to the geothermal probe system. The data set provides a basis for large-scale considerations and does not replace the conduct of detailed investigations.
