Production and treatment of textile waste in Austria.
Description
In Austria, 221,800 tonnes of textile waste end up in waste every year. Only 17 percent of textile waste is reused and recycled, the majority is incinerated. This is shown by analyses by the Federal Environment Agency on the generation and treatment of textile waste, for which waste types, textile proportions, industry origin and areas of application were determined in 2018. The focus is on used clothing, of which 44,697 tonnes were collected separately and around half were exported. Bottlenecks in the collection of used textiles will also be illuminated by the corona pandemic in 2020.
