Historical geography — natural watercourses
Description
Natural and former natural watercourses. Initially, all waters in Fryslân served the natural drainage, or at least were part of it. Rivers, natural trenches and prills, sea arms, lakes and moorings (water lakes in a high bog area) belonged to it. These waters of natural origin are listed on the map, both the existing and the now disappeared watercourses. To improve drainage and transport possibilities, many natural watercourses have been channelled over time.
