Deep tertiary water pipes – lignite sands
Description
The distribution of the miocene lignite sands with superimposed or switched on tertiary tone horizons (Oberer Glimmerton or Hamburger Tone respectively) is shown. The Hamburg clay and its equivalents divide the lignite sands into a higher and lower section, the upper and lower lignite sands (OBKS and UBKS respectively). Further map contents are information on groundwater salinisation and the location of the main groundwater shed within this water pipe complex. Lignite sands are the most important aquifers in the tertiary.
