Heat Map 2024 - Heat Demand Density for Small Consumers (2023)
Description
Under the Energy Efficiency Directive and the Renewable Energy Directive, EU Member States were required to report national heat and cold figures and plans by the end of June 2024. This is in line with the European Energy Union's strategy to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. The main products are maps for the territory of Flanders showing the heat demand at the level of the municipalities and the statistical sectors, maps of the existing and planned heat networks and finally also locations of potential heat supply points. The study was carried out by the Flemish Energy and Climate Agency. You can consult the accompanying report here: https://www.vlaanderen.be/building-living-and-energy/green energy/heat map. The heat demand density per substrate segment is displayed by colouring of road segments on the map and displayed for energy consumers with an annual heat demand of less than or equal to 200 MWh. The exact heat demand for these energy consumers is mapped and, for privacy reasons, aggregated to the level of at least 5 consumption addresses. The heat demand was calculated on the basis of Fluvius gas and electricity consumption data for the residential and tertiary sectors and additional estimates of the average biomass and fuel oil consumption from the Energy Balance. The heat demand density expresses the total heat demand per substrate segment in relation to the length of the paved roads as defined by the Flemish Road Register. The heat demand is mapped at the adjacent road segment. The road connections of the Road Register were initially divided into segments of 10m and then combined where necessary in order to reach the minimum of 5 consumption addresses. Empty segments were also eligible, with a maximum bridgeable 'empty' distance of 200m. Where it was not feasible to arrive at a cluster of at least 5 consumers in this way, the consumption addresses are assigned to a confidentially treated road segment. In these confidentially treated segments, only 1.8% of the total number of small consumers and 3.2% of the heat demand of the small consumers are located. In addition to the total heat demand per segment and the heat demand density, expressed per length of the road segment, this map layer also contains the following information: heat demand for large consumers Fluvius (anonymised by the user classes used in the er_wrmtk_wvrg_grtverbr_fluv_2023 data layer). In this way, the data of the small consumers can easily be linked to the points dataset of the large consumers. It should be noted that a consumption address refers to a connection point in the Fluvius network and can therefore in some cases include several residential units.
