Finnish surface geology 1:1 000 000 OneGeology – Europe
Description
The surface geology map of Finland was created for the OneGeology-Europe project by digitising Finland’s soil map 1:1 000 000 from 1993 and attaching material from the Geological map of the Fennoscandian Shield 1:2 000 000 from 2001 to the points where the ground map was marked with rock deposits. The objective of the OneGeology-Europe project is to create a harmonised digital geological map dataset across Europe. The map data includes soil and bedrock units as areas, as well as the impact craters of the Fennoscandian plate map as areas and tectonics as lines. The material has been reclassified according to OneGeology-Europe’s material specification guidelines. Based on recent radiometric age determinations, the rock species material in the map database has been modified and regrouped in 2009-2010 together with the Swedish and Norwegian geological research institutes to meet the needs of the OneGeology-Europe project
