EasyGSH-DB: Bathymetry (WFS)

Description

The feature service EasyGSH-DB: Bathymetry (WFS), includes the annual bathymetries of the German Bight for a period from 1996-2016, the isolines (0.5m) from 1996-2016 and the isolines (10m) from 1996-2015. Definition: ‘Bathymetry’ means the measurement of the topographical shape of the bottom of a body of water. The term is also often used – analogously to the word ‘topography’ – as a synonym for the shape of the bottom of the water. Waters in this context are seas, rivers or closed inland waters. As part of the EasyGSH project, bathymetric data sets are those that represent the height distribution in the German Bight including the estuaries of the Ems, Weser and Elbe. Due to morphological activities of the aquatic soil, such a bathymetric model is only valid for a certain period or time. Data generation: The basis for bathymetric products are gridded bathymetric models, which are created using the Functional Soil Model, a data-based hindcast simulation model, using spatiotemporal interpolation methods from a database of sea and land surveys of various data types. For each year from 1996 to 2016 inclusive, a rasterized bathymetric model is created in 10 m resolution for the German Bight and additionally in 250 m resolution for the Exclusive Economic Zone for the year 1996. Product: A 10 m grid of the German Bight is valid on July 1st for the years from 1996 to 2016, with the height stored at each grid node. 250 m grid of the Exclusive Economic Zone (1996).
