Energy balance and costs VOC reduction in the plate industry

The study supplements the report of the Federal Environment Agency on the state of the art in the chipboard and fibreboard industry (REP-0438) with energy balances and exhaust air cleaning costs for chipboard and MDF production. On the basis of the energy balances for two standardized model plants, the exhaust air purification systems regenerative post-combustion (RNV; with and without heat recovery) and (organic) scrubbers for particleboard and MDF production. The respective energy requirements as well as the emissions of volatile organic carbon compounds (VOCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2) were used. In addition, the study contains the operating and investment costs of the two exhaust air purification systems, which are set in relation to the product price. The specific VOC reduction costs are also calculated.
