Description
A resting place is a calculated area generated on the basis of individual berths of seals or cone seals. For this purpose, the berths are spatially summarised per year. A resting place is defined as a circle with a radius of 500 m around a berth (with at least 1 cone seal), whereby several berths can be aggregated into a larger area. The distance of 500 m was chosen because disturbances more than 500 m away have little or no effect on dormant seals. These areas are needed for intervention planning in order to reduce to a minimum the disturbances of the seals associated with the intervention. For cone seals, flights from 1.03-28.2 are taken into account for calculating resting places per year.
