This resource replaces the indicator c0507041, which is no longer updated, with less detail. Currently it does not cover all provinces, but is constantly updated. Land capability classification means the potential of the soil to accommodate and encourage the growth of cultivated and spontaneous plants. The potential for land use shall be assessed on the basis of the capacity to produce biomass; the possibility of referring to a wide crop spectrum and the reduced risk of soil degradation. The capacity of a soil is a function of certain physical, chemical and biological characteristics; the more favourable these properties will be for the life of the larger plants, the use of such soils can be.
