Annual Average Modeled Wind Speed for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands

Description

Shapefiles of annual average modeled wind speed for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands at 70 and 100 m hub heights. These shapefiles were generated from a raster dataset with a 200 m resolution, in a UTM zone 19, datum WGS 84 projection system. This is supplemental data to the 50 m height data set (see "Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands High Resolution Wind Resource" link below) that was validated by NREL and wind energy meteorological consultants in 2007. *Note*: This data is not suitable for micro-siting potential development projects. For updated gridded long-term average wind data please see the "Global Wind Atlas" resource below. For more information on NREL's wind resource data development, see the "Wind Integration National Dataset (WIND) Toolkit" and the "WIND Toolkit Long-Term Ensemble Dataset" resources.

21 The Global Wind Atlas is a free, web-based application developed to help policymakers, planners, and investors identify high-wind areas for wind power generation virtually anywhere in the world and then perform preliminary calculations. The Global Wind Atlas facilitates online queries and provides freely downloadable datasets based on the latest input data and modeling methodologies. https://globalwindatlas.info/en/
21 The WIND Toolkit, which was created through the collaborative efforts of NREL and 3TIER, includes instantaneous meteorological conditions from computer model output and calculated turbine power. https://data.openei.org/submissions/2
21 WIND Toolkit Long-term Ensemble Dataset (WTK-LED), an updated version of the meteorological WIND Toolkit, is a meteorological dataset providing high-resolution time series, including interannual variability and model uncertainty of wind speed at every modeling grid point to indicate ranges of possible wind speeds. https://data.openei.org/submissions/5987
