Analysis of fine dust pollution 2009-2017
Description
On behalf of the Clean Air Platform (Expert Forum of the Länder, the BMNT and the Federal Environment Agency), the Federal Environment Agency examined how fine dust pollution in Austria has developed and which factors were decisive for this. In general, fine dust pollution in Austria has decreased significantly since 2011, but at the beginning of 2017 comparatively high loads occurred in some regions. This was due to low temperatures and weather conditions with regional pollutant accumulation and long-distance transport from Eastern Europe. The general decreasing trend is determined by the decline in particulate matter emissions in Austria and neighbouring countries, but also by weather conditions that have a positive impact. Emissions are expected to continue to decline in the future.
