Surface Water Quality Indicators: Total phosphorus content in lakes (2023)
Description
The increase of phosphorus in the medium, like that of other nutrients, can be used to assess water quality, and is measured periodically as it triggers eutrophy processes. The boundary value used for the total phosphorus index is the value of the limit set in the ESDN between good and moderate status for each lake typology. The typologies without legal limit established in the RDSE have been registered as ‘No Valuation’. In addition, a fourth category is included for cases where the LQ of the analytical value of total phosphorus is higher than the border value B/M. In this case the station “Cannot be assessed”.
In this analysis we have considered all the total phosphorus substances analysed in the framework of the Monitoring Programmes (monitoring and operational control programme) planned to assess the status, in compliance with state and European regulations, for which information is available in NABIA (System for the exchange of information on water status and quality).
