Everyday life of gays and lesbians, 2003

Description

The first sociological research on the everyday life of gay and lesbian women was created within the framework of the targeted research project “Family and social contexts of homosexual life in Slovenia” (2002-2004). The purpose of the research was to obtain the first systematic data on the daily lives of gay and lesbian women who represent research difficult an accessible or hidden social minority. The aim was to identify the socio-demographic characteristics of this population and what problems they encounter in their daily lives due to their sexual orientation. The research is based on findings from foreign research and theoretical starting points in the field of sociology, LGBT studies, as well as studies of gender and sexuality. In doing so, the researchers also looked at the broader social context and characteristics of late modern Western societies (such as reflexive individualism, transformation of intimacy, changes in family life and parenthood), and at the same time the particularities of the homosexual population due to their position in heteronormative social context (social exclusion, discrimination, violence, etc.). The study covered various topics that were identified. as key in the everyday life of gays and lesbians (disclosure in various social environments, such as friendly networks, parents, etc.) family, school environment, working environment, public spaces, etc., experiences of violence based on sexual orientation, intimate partnerships, families, etc.). The study was conducted using a combination of quantitative (survey) and qualitative research (focal group). We only store survey data in ADP.
