Security in local communities, 2017

Description

The survey is a follow-up to the study entitled "The Sensation of Threat and the Role of Police in Local Security Assurance, 2012" and is based on a literature review on the provision of security in local communities. It is based on partnership cooperation between the police and local self-government. Modern police activity emphasizes the partnership relationship with local self-government and the local population, so the research examines what is the correspondence between the views of police officers and residents regarding the role of municipalities and the police in ensuring security. The purpose of the survey was to establish an opinion on ensuring safety and security among adult residents of 24 selected municipalities in Slovenia and police officers who do their work there. The survey was carried out in 2017 in urban, medium-sized (mixed) and rural municipalities. The same municipalities were included in the survey as in the previous exercise. Through a survey, researchers tested perceptions of safety and security threats, tested the theory of community policing, and the active involvement of the police, residents and municipalities in ensuring security. 520 police officers and 1,266 residents participated in the survey. A police response file (ScUF and PUF) and a population response file (PUF) are available for reuse. For researchers (ARIS code), the SCUF version of the data file "Police Officers" for scientific research (original values of variables: Police station, age and education). Preliminary implementation of the survey is also available in the ADP (ADP IDNo: VALOS12).
