Description

The role of journalism in society is historically tied to the prevailing conceptualization of press freedom and specific social, institutional and the material conditions of news production. The study examines the self-perception of journalists who worked during the period of socialist Yugoslavia and synthesizes their memories of It analyses journalistic activity from the perspective of the place of journalism in society and examines the professional autonomy of journalists. The research is based on historical interviews with former journalists who worked at the Tanjug news agency from the late 1950s to the 1990s, including as editors and foreign correspondents, It was considered the information backbone of the federal media system in Yugoslavia and an internationally recognised agency.
