Lifestyles in Media Society 2001

Description

The main goal of the research is to investigate the relationship between class and lifestyles and to investigate the cultural dimensions of class differentiation. The research is based on the assumption that culture is today a key aspect of class differentiation and that the process of so-called individualization of society has led to the disintegration of the predictable connection between an individual's social position, determined by education, economic position, spatial location, etc., and his cultural practices. Thus, there has been a disintegration of stable class cultures, which are expressed in a relatively stable class taste. Researchers assumed that while there was a predictable connection between class and lifestyles (i.e. cultural consumption in different areas - from leisure time to media and musical tastes), the nature of this connection had yet to be established. The way of life, values, etc. are therefore no longer logically feasible from the social position. The aim of the research was to establish the connection between "cultural classes" and social positions.
