Description

The first chapter of the questionnaire is the Slovenian translation of the international questionnaire ISSP96 Role of the State. Content of this questionnaire, which partly repeats ISSP85 and ISSP90 or the corresponding ADP - IDNo survey: SJMUST89, covers views on the tasks of the government in specific areas. It begins with views on the necessary respect for the law, continues with assessments of the right to various forms of protest and tolerance regarding the expression of protest by various groups, expressed in the legal dilemma of punishment in case of doubt, and on the competence of the police in the fight against crime, such as wiretapping. The second topic concerns views on State intervention in the social field, such as progressive taxation and economics. Respondents choose areas where they think the country should do more, such as employment, education, military, culture, economy. What should be the state intervention in wages, prices, support for types of industry, the dilemma regarding the level of inflation and unemployment. Views are expressed on the state regulated levelling of opportunities for the socially weaker, such as scholarships, housing for the needy, support for the unemployed, pensions, health.A number of questions concern views on personal influence on political decisions, personal power, interest in politics and the assessment of the influence of other subjects in political life, such as trade unions, industry. The second part repeats the research of the Barometer of New Democracies (NDB), and partly also questions from the study Consolidation of Democracy in Central and Eastern Europe. This includes a block of questions on the topic of political culture, the conception of politics, democracy or dictatorship, anomia or alienation in political, information, assessment of the political system in comparison with the previous regime, who got and who lost in the period of transition. This is followed by an assessment of individual economic power, shopping intentions, sources of income, livelihoods and a general assessment of the economic situation in the country, as well as the material situation of the household. This is followed by assessments of the political situation and problems, the protest potential and the likelihood of the outbreak of conflicts, the level of trust in society, the conduct in the event of the abolition of parliament, different levels of spatial attachment, attitude towards NATO and political parties. The questionnaire also includes a block of questions from the ISSP95 survey on national identity in Central Europe and the advantages or disadvantages of small countries. Demographic data include age, gender, education, occupation, employment status, income, political classification, religion, subjective assessment of social status and others.
