Determining the needs of older people in the area of the City of Ljubljana, 2012

The Faculty of Social Work is the contracting authority for the City of Ljubljana (MOL), due to the need to review the living conditions of old people and to direct policies and measures in this field, carried out a survey to determine the needs of old people living in the City of Ljubljana. In the research, the authors followed the categorization of needs, which are the result of research into the needs and life circumstances of the elderly in the City of Ljubljana in the already conducted research in the City of Ljubljana by the FSD. Thus, an indicative insight into the groups or categories of needs of older people, as well as a map of the services available to them, has already been given. The authors of the research focused mainly on the areas of housing, health and personal well-being, socialising and leisure, as well as needs related to personal care, household chores and mobility. The basis of the survey was the questionnaire of the Association of Pensioners' Societies (ZDUS), which was prepared within the framework of the project of identifying the needs of older people, but was later significantly upgraded. This was followed by a survey on the living conditions of older people, their needs for services and the planning of services. The study thus also covered the living conditions of older people in Ljubljana, which have a significant impact on their needs. These depend not only on personal circumstances, but also on life circumstances. The results can be an important basis for proposing policies and services for the elderly or ways of meeting their needs, which would benefit both the ZDUS and the City of Ljubljana.
