Second modernization of Jesenice high school students
Description
The students of the Jesenice Grammar School come from Jesenice and its surroundings, whose socio-economic development in the past was mostly defined by the development of the Jesenice Ironworks. In the last ten years, the area has been confronted with a severe crisis in the iron industry, high unemployment. The values of young people are torn between, on the one hand, the value system of traditional industrial society and the declining iron industry and, on the other hand, the impact of post-industrial modernisation of the wider environment. The aim of the research paper was to examine the responses of the pupils of the Jesenice Grammar School, who in 2001 completed their schooling at the Gimnazija Grammar School, to social and living conditions from the point of view of their personal value system. The authors were particularly interested in the extent to which the processes of the second modernization have already reached the Jesenice high school students.
