The Effects of Teaching Historical Topics on the Formation of Slovenian Identity
Description
The purpose of the research is to check the understanding and evaluation of events that potentially appear as flags of state (state-building) and national identity, and to highlight the determinants of this evaluation, especially the connection between the perception of the present and the assessment of that past that is beyond the scope of empirical experience and is mediated through school education and family socialization. The researchers also wanted to test and evaluate the power and impact of school socialization. Thirdly, they wanted to examine to what extent the anticipation and evaluation of the future in new political, cultural and economic connections is connected with the perception of the present and the assessment and understanding of the past. In the context of this cluster, the mobility potential of the generation entering the new competitive and competitive environment of a united Europe has been examined. In order to allow for the best possible comparison, the bulk of the questionnaire was compiled in such a way as to allow intergenerational comparison as well as international comparison. When examining the attitude towards the past, the questionnaire is built on the basis of the attitude towards the past questionnaires in the SJM surveys (SJM 95/3, SJM98/2 and SJM 03/1). In the question of values, public issues, political orientations, the researchers resisted Inglehart's international study World Values Survey (WVS 95), which was applied in Slovenia under the designation SJM 95/2, and the Europen Values Study, which was applied in Slovenia as SJM99/1, which enables international and Slovenian intergenerational comparison. When examining attitudes towards the EU, they built on SJM questionnaires, attitudes towards the future and the perception of integration effects directly on the Youth 2000 survey.
