Information and participation needs of young people
Description
The study "The Needs of Young People for Information and Participation" explores young people's awareness of information that is important for their personal and social development, their active participation in modern society and the impact of modern information technologies on this. Focus on a sample of adolescents from the Ljubljana region. The transition from an industrial society to a service society has changed the situation and importance of youth. The new type of youth emphasizes the education and self-design of the young person, where the active role of decision-making among the mass of information and choices is important. Computers and the Internet are emerging as important socializers (Tapscott, 1997). However, the use of new media also triggers divided opinions about their positive and negative impact on the personal and social development of young people: from a new "virtual courtyard" or meeting place for young people, freeing them from adult control to addiction to the Internet, promoting antisocial behaviour, etc. The research also touches on the definition of information and counselling activity, which in the age of information acts as an aid to young people in finding relevant information, choices and appropriate use of information and communication technologies.
