Cross-border integration and local communities, 2012: Effects of Slovenia's entry into the Schengen area on the development prospects of an ethnically mixed area in Prekmurje

Description

Within the ARRS programme group "Areas of cultural contact in integration processes", members of the Hungarian national minority in Prekmurje, in the border area, more precisely at the tri-border with Hungary, Austria and Croatia, with the help of a field survey, a case study was carried out. The purpose of the study was to learn about the life of a minority in the border, culturally mixed area of Prekmurje. define the intensity of cross-border contacts along the Slovenian-Hungarian border and recognise the role of the minority in maintaining diverse contacts with Hungary, the role of various media in providing information on minority issues, the position of the Slovenian border areas after Slovenia's accession to the EU and the expectations of the border population regarding the effects of Slovenia's accession to the Schengen area on the further development of relations between the Hungarian minority in Slovenia.
