Description

This ISSP research focuses on attitudes towards social inequality. First of all, it asks the respondents about the importance of social background, merit, discrimination and corruption for social success and about attitudes towards equal educational opportunities. He then asks for an opinion on his own salary, on the assessment of actual and adequate earnings for the range of occupations, and on the income differentials in the respondent’s country. Respondents also provide opinions on the level of taxes relative to earnings, the perception of conflicts between social groups, the possibility of social mobility, the sense of fair remuneration, as well as characterising the actual and desired social system and assessing the social standard of their own family. The demographic strand includes questions about the respondent’s age, gender, marital status, education, employment, occupation, trade union membership, income, household size, political self-determination of the left-right, participation in the last elections, religious beliefs, region of residence, country of origin or ethnic group, employment and occupation of parents in the respondent’s youth, the first and current employment of the respondent, the social situation and the estimated value of family wealth.
