Eurobarometer 71.2

Description

This Eurobarometer exercise enquires respondents about standard Eurobarometer indicators, such as: how satisfied they are with their present life. Additional questions focus on the respondent’s current living conditions compared to those of 5 years ago. to the expectations for the future, including employment, unemployment, financial situation, inequality, affordability of energy and housing, and the economic situation in the country. Further questions focused on 4 main areas: (1) European employment and social policies, (2) discrimination, (3) development aid and (4) air transport services. The first thematic strand enquired about the respondent’s awareness of the European Social Fund (ESF), asked about past and current employers, their best qualities when looking for a job. on training, on the likelihood of finding a new job if they were dismissed, and on whether they consider the European Union to have a positive or negative impact on employment and social policies. The second topic was asked about discrimination based on ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion and disability. They were asked about the extent of discrimination in their country and whether there is less or more discrimination compared to five years ago. They also responded about personal experiences of discrimination in the last year, diversity in the media and in the workplace, how the economic crisis can affect discrimination and their identification with minorities. In the third theme, respondents were asked about the importance of helping people in developing countries, the Millennium Development Goals, the motives of wealthy countries to help developing countries, the best-placed countries; to help developing countries, the major challenges facing developing countries and the EU’s contribution to development. The last theme ended with questions on the use of air transport. knowledge of passenger rights and satisfaction and experience of air transport services. The demographic strand included questions about political self-determination of the left-right, occupation, age at the end of education; household composition, religious definition, ownership of a fixed or mobile phone and other durable goods, use of the Internet, financial situation, social status, membership of a minority, type and size of settlement, region of residence and language of interview.
