Working Relations and Conditions of Newspaper Distributors in Slovenia, 2014

Description

The data were collected for the purpose of analysing the work of newspaper distributors in Slovenia. They focus on two companies: the media company Dnevnik and the distribution company Select. In response to long-term trends of falling readers, Dnevnik tried to reduce distribution costs by transferring the distribution activity to a competitive company Select. This move has met with resistance from the shippers negatively affected by this act. The purpose of the data collection was to identify, with the help of work process theory, techniques of economic rationalization that are used to reduce the costs of haulage work, to discipline the workforce and to cope with the resistance of haulers.
