Roads: Swiss main roads (DGSV — MinVV)

Description

The federal government maintains a list of all the main roads. These are listed in the Annex to the Transit Road Ordinance (DgStrVO). The signalling authority may, with the consent of the Federal Office, determine or cancel additional main roads in larger towns. The main roads for which the Federal Government grants global contributions are listed in Annex 2 to the Ordinance on the use of the dedicated mineral oil tax in road transport (OUMin). The network of main Swiss roads is laid down in the Ordinance on the Use of Special Purpose Oil Tax in Road Transport (MinVV). In contrast to the Haupstrasse network, it is usually provided with the addition of the Swiss main road network (SHS) in accordance with the through-road regulation. The main roads contained therein have a certain supra-regional significance. They serve to collect traffic, connect mountain regions and connect other important tourism regions. The federal government pays contributions for the Swiss main road network. The Ordinance regulates the federal contribution rates as well as the contribution conditions and specifies principles, guidelines and norms for the design and expansion or construction of main Swiss roads.
