Archaeological inventory

Description

The archaeological inventory of the canton of Bern contains all known archaeological sites of the canton. An archaeological site can include very different things from the individual object of discovery to complex and large-scale settlement and building structures preserved in the ground. If, in the case of spatial planning and infrastructure projects or construction projects, archaeological sites are located in or near the planned project perimeter, we recommend prior contact with the Archaeological Service so that it can be checked for the respective project whether archaeology will be affected. The Archaeological Service can be reached for such requests on the central telephone number 031 633 98 98 or by email to adb.bauen@be.ch. Archaeological finds are the property of the Canton of Bern. Excavations and the use of metal detectors without a permit are punishable by law.
